Reports for the first day of the season: Hi, just started to fish stew ponds, epsom and not a bad place either, good fishing, 9 bream and an 8lb tench on 1st visit. When I arrived a 7am there were 3 20 year olds night fishing. when speaking to them they were ok and told me that they were not members and knew that night fishing was not allowed but have never been stopped because no one ever comes to the place to check. later in the day about 1.30 a guy turned up and said he was collecting money from non members. On speaking further to him he said that not much can be done with people night fishing and not wanting to pay and that the police and EA don't want to know and get involved to do something about it. He did not even ask for my licence saying it is not his job. now i don't mind paying the £5 and having a good days fishing but to us honest anglers its not fair to pay and let the others who refuse to pay and give the guy a bit of lip. obviously he should not put himself in danger but maybe a few guys from CALPAC should go together and collect the money, arrange for an officer from the police or EA to attend with them once a week at least to show it wont be tolerated and the club are doing something about it. - Kevin........
Had my best day up the Stew Ponds the other day, caught over 50lb of Bream  mostly 2 or 3lb jobbies plus 4 good Tench 3lb each its looks like its come back with a bang.

Manor Pond
NO CARP TO BE PUT IN KEEPNETS OR CARP SACKS unless Match Fishing.
It has been a good start to the season at Manor Pond with some good catches of tench and silver fish, plus numerous carp and some bream. The pond hasn’t been exactly rammed with anglers but there have been a few every day and the car park has been packed out on some occasions.
Half a dozen new members have joined for the carp fishing and most of them have caught. To my knowledge at least fourteen carp have been out, the biggest being 26 lbs 2 oz with 4 other 20s and the rest mainly upper doubles.
Dale had two carp plus tench of 8 lbs, 7 lbs and 6 lbs in one session. I had two sessions with 7 tench to about 6 lbs each session.
There have been two dead tench stuck in the weed and I have been told of a sick-looking carp today. Given the head of fish, three deaduns is not anything to worry about but we will be keeping an eye on things. Unfortunately it is impossible to get the dead fish out without the use of a boat. I have spoken to Mark and he is setting matters in hand so Dale and I can liberate the boat which is locked up in Walton Firs at the moment.
So far there is no sign of any poaching but it would be useful to have more “CALPAC Private Fishing Members Only” signs around the pond. Without these, the EA signs which say a national rod license is required to fish the water might give the impression that is the
only requirement.

Best day for me at the pond so far, 3 tench 4lb12oz, 4lb2oz and 4lb4oz, no record breakers but a nice scrap from each of them in very hot conditions. All 3 taken on method mix with dog biscuit on hair, thanks pedigree.Hopefully the pond is now willing to give up her wares to me. Great day - Adrian Hook

Balls Green Match Lake OPEN During the 'close' season

2 new members were fishing the match lake. The water was covered in blossom and similar bits. The carp were in the out of bounds area spawning. We decided to fish the small pond, but here again the surface was covered in blossom etc. plenty of 5inch perch roach an rudd. plus 1 tench of 2lb 4oz. We also found a poacher and his girlfriend, he also had caught a 2lb tench before we arrived after giving him an application form, sent him on his way. He said he was from Biggin Hill. The lock is still not usable, farmers lock missing as is the short length of chain for attaching our lock. Track still has muddy holes in it, although at present going round then is not a problem and does not interfere with the crops.
Queen Vic fished on Sunday 4th July - Pete M caught 57lb of Carp MM-S had 26lb Carp and small Tench

12/07/10 Here are are the results from S&C rota booking yesterday, first Ronnie Moore with 28lb 5oz, second Roy West with 25lb 10oz, including the ghostie at 10lb 8oz (out at least three times in the last two to three weeks that I know of), third was Gary Johnson on 10lb 14oz.

River Kennet (Padworth)

I fished at Padworth on saturday 19th, it was very quiet during daylight hours but changed nicely after dark. I finished with 3 Barbel, 6lb 9oz, 7lb and a PB for me of 10lb 6oz. There were a few trout caught on maggot by other anglers and 1 Barbel by a nice gentleman who was rolling meat. The fishery was noticeably empty of anglers which is strange for the first weekend of the new season. There were two new members who came from Egham, they found the fishing difficult during daylight like myself, could you mention in the report that it is worth persevering as the fish are definitely there Cheers Dean H

Dean Hawkins/Jaques Strydom - 2 Barbel 8lb 5oz and 6lb and 1 pike 5 1/2lb on a boilie!!!

River Medway & Teise (Yalding 1)

River Medway & Beult (Yalding 2) At the start of this season (2010/2011) a very good bag of Roach and skimmers were produced in one sitting (see photo in venue catches)
Had a very pleasant afternoon on the Medway yesterday, with roach & skimmers to 10-12oz. Turned two poachers away, they tried to convince me they could get a day ticket on the bank for £4, told them to go upstream where they could buy one for £5 at Teapot Island. They then tried to head for our fence before I sent them to the gate, noticed they headed back to the village. - Ray Wilkinson

Speringbrook Drain (Snargate)OPEN During the 'close' season

Having lost about 10kg in sweat on saturday I'm happy to report I managed to create a few nice swims by the bridge at Arrowhead Cottage and the opposite end of that stretch. I raked a lot of the weed out so you can at least drop a float in. I had a chat to the man who lives at Arrowhead who as it happens said that his degree was in water management, he said that he rarely sees fish apart from very young fish. Like me he is sure this is due to the nitrogen run off from the fields which causes the Algae explosion, thus choking the drain and causing de-oxygenation. This being the case could we contact the EA to find out if they can do their annual weed cut early summer rather than late autumn to allow the fish a chance to survive.

With that in mind if there are any fish being removed from the Stew Pond during the works, could some of the carp and tench be stocked at Snargate? I hope you don't think I'm being cheeky, but I always work on the basis that if you don't ask questions you do not warrant any answers..........................

Grand Union Canal (Hayes to West Drayton) OPEN During the 'close' season

Bailiffing going good, sold some tickets. However there a few things that should be brought to the next meeting.

1. Signs on the bridges need replacing, as anglers don't know who controls the section.

2. I have removed some litter from the banks, however I am concerned about the flytipping on the opposite bank, as the litter is going into the canal. If I paid £5 to fish, I would not like to fish in a rubbish tip! Can I contact the local council.

3. Over my last couple of visits I have noticed 4 to 5 dead fish, it might be an algae problem or oxogen levels. Personally I think the canal needs reed planting and tree planting as this controls the levels of nutrients.
